Jasprit Bumrah, the Indian pacer has had a memorable 12 months in international cricket in 2024. He won the ICC Test Cricketer Of The Year Award. He also found a spot in the ICC Test side.
Bumrah's stellar performance earned him accolades, including the ICC Test Cricketer of the Year on Monday and a spot in the Test Team of the Year announced last week. The Indian pacer took 71 wickets in Test cricket in 2024 including five fifers.
He was at the peak of his powers in international cricket in 2024 and his exploits with the ball against Australia perhaps made his case to win the Test Cricketer of the Year award. He finished with 32 wickets in the series, the most by any Indian bowler in a Test series against Australia. Despite Bumrah's heroics with the all, India lost the series and they could not make the WTC final.
"I feel really good. As a youngster, I have seen my childhood heroes winning this great award, so yeah, very happy to be at the 'receiving end'," Bumrah told broadcasters.

Winning The T20 World Cup Was Really Special - Jasprit Bumrah
He further spoke about India winning the T20 World Cup in 2024. Bumrah played an instrumental role in India's title-winning campaign. The pacer finished with 15 wickets and was named the Player Of The Tournament. His two best spells came in the match against Pakistan and in the final against South Africa.
"So winning the T20 World Cup was really special, and the memories that we made after that are going to be close to me forever. So I will always pick us winning the T20 World Cup first," said Bumrah.
The Indian pacer became the fifth Indian cricketer to win the ICC Men's Cricketer of the Year Award. Previous Indian winners include Rahul Dravid (2004), Sachin Tendulkar (2010), Ravichandran Ashwin (2016), and Virat Kohli (2017, 2018).
"It feels really good to get honours from the legends of the game, but I always take things with a pinch of salt. I'm very happy with the honour, but I don't let myself get too high. My feet are on the ground, and I'm really happy with the accolades that I get" Bumrah said.
Speaking about Jasprit Bumrah, the Indian pacer is currently rested from the white-ball series against England. His participation in the Champions Trophy is still in doubt as he is yet to recover fully from his lower back injury.
