Meanwhile, the BCCI selection committee led by Ajit Agarkar named the Indian squad for the Champions Trophy 2025 and also the England ODI series on Saturday. Rohit was named the captain for both the assignments. Shreyas Iyer too has made a comeback after having a good Ranji Trophy season.
Also back in the side are Hardik Pandya, KL Rahul, Shubman Gill and Rishabh Pant. Gill was chosen as the vice-captain over Pandya. Meanwhile, Sanju Samson lost out on a spot in India's Champions Trophy squad.
Mohammed Shami and Jasprit Bumrah were also included in India's Champions Trophy squad. Mohammed Siraj, who has picked the most wickets for India in ODIs since 2022 was excluded.
Meanwhile, the Indian skipper has also kept a word on BCCI's diktat regarding playing domestic cricket being mandatory for all the players. He said due to constant domestic cricket players do not get enough time to play domestic cricket in between.
"[In the] last six-seven years, if you go back and see our calendar, there hasn't been a time where we were sitting at home for 45 days and there is cricket going on. You do get that time when you finish the IPL and if there's nothing happening right after that. But if you see our domestic season, it starts in October - maybe September - and it gets over by February-March. And that is the time India plays a lot of [international] cricket as well. So, guys who are not playing certain formats and have time, and then there is domestic cricket happening, then they will play" Rohit suggested.
