Sourav Ganguly in fray to enter Cricket Association of Bengal presidential election

Former India captain & ex-BCCI President Sourav Ganguly is likely to contest for the President's post of the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) again. Interestingly, Ganguly's brother Snehashish is ineligible to contest for the CAB's president's post.

The former BCCI president confirmed to India Today that he will be entering the CAB President's role yet again and submitting his nomination at the upcoming Annual General Meeting (AGM). It will be a no-brainier that the former India captain will be elected as the unanimous winner if he enters the CAB race, owing to his huge amount of experience and the aura that he carries. The current CAB President, Snehashish, will be ineligible due to the Lodha Committee's tenure cap.

The CAB has also decided the date of the next AGM and elections. An emergent Apex Council Meeting was held on Tuesday to prepare for the next polls. The final meeting is set to be held one day before Independence Day, 15th August, and the AGM will be held on September 20, 2025.

Sourav Ganguly's previous CAB experience might land him the prestigious role again

For the unversed, Ganguly served as the CAB Secretary in 2015 before being elected as CAB President the following year. He was holding the prestigious position till 2019, after which he went on to serve as BCCI President from 2019 to 2022. Ganguly carries an enormous weight of experience and is highly respected as a person. The southpaw has played a massive, transformative role in Indian Cricket through his fearless leadership as President of the CAB & later as President of BCCI.

During his previous tenure as CAB President from 2015 to 2019, Ganguly primarily focused on reviving Bengal Cricket by bringing modern amenities and enhancing player development programs.
