Captains of Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) Rajat Patidar and Pat Cummins have been slapped with hefty fines on account of slow over rate offence in the match against RCB vs SRH in Lucknow on Friday, May 23.
This was RCB's second slow-over rate offence with Jitesh Sharma leading the side in the game. However, since Rajat Patidar is the regular skipper of the franchise had had to pay a heavy price for his team's slow over-rate offence. He had to play a fine of Rs 24 lakhs.
Meanwhile, Pat Cummins had to pay a fine of Rs 15 lakhs as this was the first slow over-rate offence for SRH in IPL 202r. The players from both sides had to pay a fine of 25 percent of their match fees individually.
Pat Cummins, Rajat Patidar Pay Heavy Price
The IPL in a statement clarified that both the captains and the players of the respective franchises were to pay the fine.
"As it was his team’s second offence of the season under the IPL’s Code of Conduct relating to minimum over-rate offences, Patidar was fined INR 24 lakhs. The rest of the members of the Playing XI, including the Impact Player, were each individually fined either INR 6 lakh or 25 per cent of their respective match fees, whichever is lesser," IPL said in their release.
"As it was his team’s first offence of the season under Article 2.22 of the IPL Code of Conduct, which pertains to minimum over-rate offences, Cummins was fined INR 12 Lakh," the statement further added.

RCB's Top Two Dream Hangs in The Balance
Meanwhile, RCB's loss to SRH was their fourth of the season. The loss has heavily dented their hopes of finishing in the top two. They have just once game remaining against LSG which they will play in Lucknow on May 27.
PBKS, on the other hand, with two games remaining now have a serious chance of finishing in the top two. They play against DC on May 24 and against MI on May 26. GT on account of their loss to LSG in their previous game also run the risk of not finishing in the top two. They play their final game against CSK on Sunday.
