IPL 2025 Match 49 CSK vs PBKS Highlights: Sam Curran’s Blitz Carves CSK’s Path to Redemption

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) scored 190 runs in the 49th match of the Indian Premier League 2025 (IPL 2025) against Punjab Kings (PBKS) at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on April 30.

After opting to bowl first, Punjab Kings put Chennai Super Kings on the backfoot, dismissing both of their openers Shaik Rasheed (11 runs off 12 balls) and Ayush Mhatre (7 runs off 6 balls) early.

CSK’s powerplay woes continued. Their opening partnership of 21 runs tonight was their highest this season at Chepauk.

Ravindra Jadeja (17 runs off 12 balls), batting at No. 4, was positive in his intent. He took on Harpreet Brar in the sixth over, smacking three boundaries. However, the left-arm spinner ultimately got the better of his counterpart, who nicked the ball to the PBKS wicket-keeper, Josh Inglis.

Sam Curran (88 runs off 47 balls) and Dewald Brevis (32 runs off 26 balls) forged a 78-run partnership for the fourth wicket, reviving CSK’s innings. Curran started the counter-attack in the eighth over, hitting Brar for a maximum.

He cut loose in the ninth over bowled by Yuzvendra Chahal, who was greeted with a six by Brevis apart from Curran’s two consecutive fours.

At the 10-over mark, CSK’s score read 89 runs for the loss of three wickets.

Azmatullah Omarazi, bowling the 12th over, conceded 14 runs with Curran continuing the onslaught, hammering two more boundaries.

Brevis, who struggled in the latter part of his innings, was ultimately dismissed by Omarzai on the first ball of the 15th over.

Meanwhile, Curran did not slow down. He completed his fifty in 31 deliveries in the 15th over with a double and followed up with a boundary.

The 16th over was a massive one for CSK. Curran tonked two back-to-back sixes to start the over. Suryansh Shedge felt the pressure and bowled a no-ball. Shreyas Iyer saved four runs for his team on the boundary on a free-hit. Shedge was smashed for two more fours by the all-rounder in an over that cost PBKS a whopping 26 runs.

Arshdeep Singh bowled a magnificent 17th over and gave away just four runs. After getting hammered for a six, Jansen sent Curran packing.

MS Dhoni (11 runs off 4 balls) kickstarted his innings with a boundary as the Chepauk crowd erupted. Shreyas took a punt by bowling Chahal in the 19th over. The decision seemed to be going CSK's way when Dhoni nailed a one-handed six off the leg-spinner. However, Chahal came back well and took the wicket of Dhoni.

Deepak Hooda (2 runs off 2 balls), Anshul Kamboj (0 run off 1 ball) and Noor Ahmad (0 run off 1 ball) fell on three consecutive deliveries as Chahal bagged a hat-trick, his second in the IPL.

Arshdeep showed the exit door to Shivam Dube (6 runs off 6 balls) after getting hit for a boundary as CSK were bowled out for 190 runs in 19.2 overs.
