Indian Test skipper Shubman Gill is all set to miss the Duleep Trophy 2025 quarter-final with illness. North Zone are playing the first quarter-final against East Zone, which started on August 28.
In Gill’s absence, Haryana top-order batter Ankit Kumar is leading North Zone in the match, while Services batter Shubham Rohilla has replaced Gill in the squad. As of now, Gill is part of India’s Asia Cup 2025 squad, which was named on August 19 and is expected to be available for the tournament. He was named the team’s vice-captain for the tournament.
The news regarding Shubman Gill’s illness has been doing the rounds across media outlets. As per reports in the Times of India, Gill is recovering well from his illness, with his blood reports returning normal without any major concerns. Gill had previous health issues as well, where he was down with flu and also was down with dengue.

Shubman Gill, Dhruv Jurel Were Captains Of North And Central Zone Respectively
Along with Shubman Gill, Dhruv Jurel will also miss the Duleep Trophy quarter-finals for Central Zone against North East Zone. Jurel is out with a groin niggle, with Rajat Patidar leading the side. Khaleel Ahmed, Deepak Chahar and Kuldeep Yadav are all part of the Central Zone XI facing the North East Zone.

Meanwhile, East Zone skipper Abhimanyu Easwaran is also down with fever, with Riyan Parag replacing him as the skipper. Jurel and Parag are part of the reserves for India’s Asia Cup squad, while Gill was named as the vice-captain, as said earlier. Recently, Gill led the Indian team in England, scoring 754 runs in the five-match series that ended 2-2. Based on his success as Test skipper, the Ajit Agarkar-led selection committee named him as the vice-captain for Asia Cup 2025.
