BCB eager to look for away series in vacant August window

Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) is eagerly looking for an away series after the India Cricket Team's denial for the white-ball series in August. BCB Chairman Najmul Abedeen Fahim informed the same to media on Wednesday, July 16. For the unversed, India's tour to Bangladesh was postponed due to security and political reasons. The white-ball tour will now happen in September 2026, tentatively.

Bangladesh is currently touring Sri Lanka for the all-format series. The tour concludes today with the final T20I taking place in Colombo. With the T20 World Cup 2026 just eight months away, the BCB wants to give its players as much match practice as possible.

"For that period, we were thinking of playing matches internally since previously we had the 'A' team playing against the national side. That was part of a previous plan. Right now, we are thinking of whether we can play with another team or play outside the country for a limited time. If it doesn't happen, then we will play matches internally," he said.

BCB looks to cash in on the August window, as BCB also undecided on the Test captain after Shanto's resignation

There is another issue that BCB also has to deal with apart from arranging a series in the August window. They are yet to announce a successor for Najmul Hussain Shanto after the southpaw decided to step down from the red-ball format after the Sri Lanka Test series. The reason for Southpaw resigning from the role was due to BCB naming three different skippers for different formats of the game.

Shanto returned home after the conclusion of the ODI series, and on Wednesday, Fahim was questioned whether there was any formal communication from the former Test skipper.

"No, actually, even previously, there was adequate communication with him. I feel that both Shanto and we [board] are clear about what happened."

Although BCB wanted Shanto to lead the Test side, the southpaw clearly denied continuing as the skipper of the red-ball format.

"Definitely, we wanted him to continue, but since he has made a decision, we have respect for that."
