Team India's Strength and Conditioning (S&C) coach Adrian Le Roux gave some much-needed insights to the members of the ongoing Asia Cup 2025 squad on the need for the newly introduced fitness drill - Bronco test. Along with the already existing Yo-Yo Test, this new fitness rule was added by head Gautam Gambhir & Co. The Indian players went through this new test for the first time last week, before India's Continental Cup opener against the UAE.
Ahead of the Surya-led team's second clash against arch-rivals Pakistan, Le Roux, in a video posted by BCCI on their official social media platforms, explains that the Bronco test is not new, and that it has a two-fold purpose - measurement and its usage as a training mechanism. The coach said that the test provided accurate information on the position of cricketers in terms of aerobic fitness, and saw if they were moving in the correct direction. The coach also stated that the Bronco test was a field test, which could be carried out anywhere across the globe.

“The run we did today is a Bronco run. It is not a new run or a measurement. It has been around for years in different sporting codes. It is something we introduced in the team’s environment. It is two-fold in use: We can use it as a training mechanism, and secondly, as a measurement. We get a good idea of where the players are in terms of their aerobic fitness and if we are moving in the right direction,” Roux explained.

What is Bronco test?
A player will start a 20m shuttle run, followed by 40m, and 60m, totaling 1,200 meters without a pause. The report states that the time given for the players to complete the test is six minutes. Besides the Asia Cup squad players undergoing the Bronco test, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli also underwent the test. Both players are eyeing a comeback in the ODI series against Australia Down Under.
